Leave entitlement during maternity and parental leave

Leave entitlement during maternity protection and parental leave refers to how much leave employees can take. During maternity leave, pregnant women are entitled to six weeks maternity leave before the birth and eight weeks after the birth. Mothers can also take parental leave after the birth to care for their newborn child. During this time, work performance is suspended and the leave entitlement remains in place.

Leave entitlement during maternity leave

Pregnant women are entitled to maternity leave during maternity protection. This leave lasts six weeks before the expected date of birth and eight weeks after the birth. To protect their health and that of their unborn child, pregnant women are not allowed to work during maternity leave. The entitlement to leave during maternity protection is defined by law and must be observed by the employer. In some countries, additional regulations may apply to maternity protection and maternity leave.

Entitlement to leave during parental leave

Parental leave allows parents to look after their child without losing their job. During parental leave, the employment relationship is suspended and employees are still entitled to leave. During parental leave, leave entitlement is maintained and can be taken after parental leave. Employees should contact their employer to plan and arrange leave during parental leave. The duration of parental leave and the allocation of leave may vary depending on the legal provisions of the respective country.

Rights and obligations

During maternity and parental leave, employees have certain rights and obligations. These include the right to maternity leave, parental leave and the maintenance of leave entitlement. It is the employer's duty to respect these rights and ensure that employees are protected during this time. Employees should be aware of their rights and discuss their leave entitlements during maternity and parental leave with their employer in good time.
